Dr Wong Jen San is an experienced general surgeon specialising in gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary-pancreatic (HPB) conditions, and liver transplantation. His areas of expertise include disorders of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts, as well as complex liver cancer surgery and transplantation. He is recognised for his contributions to advanced liver and pancreas surgery, including minimally invasive and robotic techniques. Education & Surgical Training Dr Wong obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Leicester in 1998, and completed his early surgical training in the United Kingdom. He later returned to Singapore, where he completed his Advanced Specialty Training in General Surgery at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) in 2008. He was awarded: Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh Fellowship of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore (General Surgery) Advanced Hepatobiliary & Transplant Fellowship Dr Wong underwent further subspecialty training in advanced hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation through the Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP). He completed a Clinical Fellowship in Living Donor Liver Transplantation in Japan, training under: Professor Shinji Uemoto at Kyoto University Hospital Professor Yukihiro Inomata at Kumamoto University Hospital This specialised training strengthened his expertise in complex liver transplant procedures and donor-recipient surgery. Transplant & Surgical Milestones Dr Wong is a Visiting Consultant to the Liver Transplant Programme at Singapore General Hospital. He has played a role in several landmark surgical achievements, including: Participation in one of the earliest successful split liver transplants at SGH Involvement in the earliest combined heart-liver transplant in Asia (2009) Among the early pioneers of robotic liver and pancreatic surgery at SGH Research & Academic Contributions During his tenure at SGH, Dr Wong was actively involved in hepatopancreatobiliary research, with particular clinical and academic interest in: Colorectal cancer liver metastases Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) He was a member of the Steering Committee for the AHCC06 trial and is a founding member of the Hepatopancreatobiliary Association Singapore (HPBAS).
