Experience & Professional Profile Dr. Donald Poon is a Medical Oncologist practising at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. He manages a broad spectrum of cancers and has a special interest in geriatric oncology, providing expert care for elderly patients with cancer. Dr. Poon has expertise in the management of sarcoma, melanoma, stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, bile duct cancer, gastrointestinal stromal tumours, and neuroendocrine/carcinoid tumours. Education & Training Dr. Poon graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1996 and completed advanced specialty training in medical oncology at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS). He practised at NCCS before starting his private practice in 2010. He also received the SingHealth HMDP training award to pursue geriatric oncology training at Moffitt Cancer Centre, USA, reflecting his commitment to advancing cancer care for elderly patients. Academic & Research Contributions Dr. Poon was Assistant Professor in Medicine at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School from 2008 to 2010. He served as Honorary Medical Director of Singapore Cancer Society (2007–2009) and was the Founding President of the Society of Geriatric Oncology in Singapore. He developed a dedicated geriatric oncology programme, specialising in comprehensive care for older patients with cancer. His research accomplishments include: National Medical Research Council (NMRC) grant award of over $1 million for liver cancer research. Presenting his geriatric oncology research at the 2008 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting. Publication of more than 40 scientific papers in high-impact oncology journals, including Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Lancet Oncology.
